Have been here a few times over the past few years and have never had a disappointing experience. My boyfriend remembered his birthday here (in 2016) so fondly we ended up bringing his parents this past Sunday when they were in town. Sunday's here are nice because they do a big family style meal for a flat rate, $65pp (tip is included in this). We were lucky enough to go for their 6 year anniversary dinner which featured a fantastic spread of a peach, goat cheese and hazelnut salad, prime rib with roasted vegetables and bearnaise sauce, and a banana split with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, candied peanuts and caramelized bananas for dessert. We also ordered 2 carafes of the house red to enjoy throughout the meal ($28/ea).
Everything we ate was wonderful- the salad was delicious and so flavorful, the prime rib was out of this world and so perfectly cooked, and the banana split was such a fun way to end the meal. Service was also fantastic (as usual)! Although this is a more expensive option, the prices are higher because they include tips for all of their workers so that they can pay livable wage. Cannot recommend highly enough! -

It was a very mediocre experience, from the food to the service.
Service was extremely strange. Our waiter didn't know *anything* about the menu. There's ~15 items on it. There's a pork dish that is "Pork cooked in the fireplace", so I asked, what cut of pork is that. He didn't know and said he'd have to ask. I asked him about another dish, once again went back to ask. That seems like a ridiculous lack of preparation, and I expect higher given the rather high price point ($35+ for an entree!).
On to the food itself. Everything was over salted! Linguine was decent but very salty, crisp potatoes were over salted, and the pork was as well. The short rib served with a steam bun was underwhelming. The rib itself had no marinade so it was dry, and most of the flavor ended up coming from the kimchi and peanut sauce.
We ended up going to CDP down the street for some more bites, which is 2* Michelin food, and at a cheaper price point! -

Prime rib option is really good and the portions aren't terribly big so you actually eat all of your food. Risotto is really good as well. Wine selection is decent. Bread is pretty good too.
I don't like the built in gratuity thing though. -

This review is for another Piedmont Ave pot of gold and is way overdue.
Homestead is a cozy farm to table, restaurant that serves high quality Californian cuisine. I love getting their freshly baked pastries in the morning, especially their beignets. Warm fluffy dough pillows sprinkled with powdered sugar and they actually taste pretty close to Cafe Du Monde's.
They offer a $90 "family feast" which includes the whole menu of delicious food made with TLC. If it is your first time, you have a pretty good appetite, and don't mind a splurge, I would recommend it. It's a perfect way to sample what Homestead is all about. There is also a $60 "Sunday Supper" option, which offers prefixed meal options.
I came here with my family and bf- we were seated in the large table in the back of the restaurant, which was nice and private. It's like we were at home.
The service was perfect, our server was charming and brought out each dish in a timely and thoughtful fashion. Each dish was delicious and by the time dessert came around, I was stuffed!
They also include the gratuity in the pricing to pay their workers a decent living wage.
It's about time I returned to try the new "feast," as they change their menu to what is seasonally available. -

Had a couple of meals here in the past. Even though I'm vegetarian I always found enough choices. Salads were great.
My wife has had even more meals here with friends.
I have to say though, I was visiting a nearby business and saw they were not open. They had the chairs on top of the tables with the bottom of the legs that touch the floor, where folks step into you know what, directly on the table where one eats.
Yes, I've worked in restaurants and bakeries for many years and I'm well aware of what can happen behind the scenes.
Someone from the restaurant responded within hours noting that this is not their practice and it must have been the cleaning crew. I would have hoped someone on the staff saw the issue but in any case it likely won't happen again. Mistakes happen but what makes a difference is the problem being addressed.
And bonus points for taking this seriously, not being weird and stalky or bribing to change the review. Way to go Homestead.
